The YG1 55558TF solid carbide finishing end mill, sized at 1/8″ diameter and 1″ length of cut, combines rigidity and reach to support precision milling in cast iron and similar materials. Its 4-flute design, 30° helix angle, and TiAlN Futura coating provide balanced chip evacuation and abrasion resistance, extending tool life in abrasive cast iron applications. This tool is designed for finishing passes under stable cutting conditions, with a center cutting capability that allows plunge cuts and enhances versatility in complex profiles. The absence of a corner radius focuses forces on sharp edges, requiring careful feed rate control to avoid chipping. Avoid using this end mill on non-ferrous materials, as the TiAlN Futura coating is not well suited and would deteriorate rapidly. While capable of machining steel and stainless steel, it is particularly optimized for cast iron and similar abrasive materials rather than softer or gummy metals.
